Modeling career:
Lisa has been modeling since she was 16 years old. She started off by making an appearance in the Bombay Dyeing advertisement with Karan Kapoor (Shashi Kapoor’s son) wearing a black swimsuit. Even today posing in swimwear is a big deal. And this was the early 90s! A photo shoot in swimwear is something reserved only for those with perfect bodies. And Lisa definitely has one.
She followed that up with another swimwear shoot for the cover of Gladrags. And this time it was a red one, a la Baywatch style. By then Lisa was a name to reckon with.
She continued modeling, even though film makers were on their knees begging her to work for them. She went on to model for Daewoo Matiz, Lakme, Sprite, Monte Carlo and Garden. Needless to say, all the campaigns were successful.
The small screen:
Lisa appeared in 2 music videos. One was the superhit Afreen Afreen by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. It will be a long time before people forget this hot video! The other was Har taraf tera jalwa by Daler Mahendi. The song didn’t too well, but she looked beautiful nevertheless.

Finally the Silver Screen:
She eventually entered Bollywood, with the thriller Kasoor (2001). Lisa plays Simran Bhargav, Aftab Shivdasani’s lawyer, who gets him acquitted and then begins to doubt her judgment. She looked as fresh as ever, and the role was strong as well. It seemed like Lisa was here to stay.
But she wasn’t one to be content doing just Bollywood films. In 2002 she worked in a Telugu film Takkari Donga, with Mahesh Babu (famous Tollywood actor and Namrata Shirodkar‘s husband). In the same year she worked in Deepa Mehta’s romantic comedy Bollywood Hollywood, also starring Rahul Khanna.
In 2004 she played Saima in the Hollywood comedy Ball &Chain.
In 2005 came the hugely controversial and critically acclaimed Deepa Mehta film Water. Lisa plays a young widow in the movie, caught between rigid traditions, superstitions and love. She then worked in a Canadian film Seeking Fear (2005), followed by the UK-made The Flowerman (2006).
She acted in more UK-made films: in 2007 she played a lesbian in I Can’t Think Straight, and in 2008 she starred in the thriller Kill Kill Faster Faster.
