Suhasini Biography
Suhasini is not just Director Mani Ratnam’s better half, but is also an accomplished actor, Writer, Producer and Director herself. She was born on 15th August 1961 in Tamil Nadu, to Charu Hassan, Kamal Hassan’s brother’ implying that she is Kamal’s niece.
Film Career as an Actor:
Suhasini has acted in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada movies. Some of them are-
• Kotha Jeevithalu (1980) was her first film. It was in Telugu.
• She was seen with Chiranjeevi in the hit Tollywoodfilm ManchupallakiI (1982).
• Her performance in the Tamil movie Oru Indhiya Kanavu (1983) was greatly appreciated.
• In 1984 came the Malayalam film Thathamme Poocha Poocha. She played the character of Kalyani.
• The same year she acted in the Telugu film Justice Chakravarthy (1984).
• As Sindhu in the Tamil film Sindhu Bhairavi she gave a stellar performance, probable one of  her best roles to date.
• Suhasini was the female protagonist in the Malayalam movie Mazhakkala Megham (1985).
• Jandhyala’s Telugu film Muddula Manavaraalu (1986) saw a great performance by Suhasini.
• In 1987 she appeared in the Malayalam movie Ezhuthapurangal.
• The same year she appeared with Karthik in the Tamil movie Dhoorathu Pacchai (1987).
• In 1988 she was seen in the Tamil film En Bommukutty Ammavukku.
• She acted with Nagarjuna and Sridevi in the Telugu film Aakhari Poratam (1988).
• In 1989 she appeared with Rajnikanth in the Tamil film En Purushan Thaan Enakkum Mattum Thaan.
• The same year she gave a fantastic performance in the Malayalam film Oru Sayahnathinte Swapnam (1989).
• In 2003 she was a part of the Indian-made English film Stumble.
• Suhasini played a witch doctor in the Tamil film Shock (2004).
• In 2005 Suhasini was seen in the Malayalam venture Vacation.
• Suhasini had a small role in the Telugu movie Amma Cheppindi (2006).
• In the Tamil film Satham Podathey (2007) also she had a good but small role.
• She appeared in V M Vinu’s Malayalam film Makante Achan (2009).
• She is currently filming for a Tamil film Thillalangadi, due to release in 2010.
As Producer:
Suhasini was the Executive Producer of Iruvar (1997). It was made in Tamil, by her husband, Mani Ratnam, starring Mohanlal and Aishwarya Rai. It was a huge hit.
She Directed the Tamil film Indira (1996).
Suhasini wrote the dialogues and screenplay for Iruvar and was the writer for Indira.
Suhasini won the best actress award for Sindhu Bhairavi.
Few people know that Suhasini is a trained costume designer, hair stylist and Cinematographer.
She was apparently the first female student to graduate from the Madras Film Institiue.
